Another good CF Clinic visit

I should've posted this a couple of days ago, but better late than never. On Tuesday we went up to the Mary Bridge CF Clinic again & the appointment went very well. Guess who now weighs 10 lbs!! Crazy how quickly she's growing! I was sad last week when I realized she no longer fits into her newborn clothes! My mom keeps calling her "Lambchops" - those adorably chubby cheeks! It's pretty much all in the cheeks right now though, the rest of her is still pretty long & skinny. Back to the appointment... her growth was very impressive - they know that she's just gone through a big length & weight growth spurt & they're hoping that when her length growth slows down that her weight growth will continue to increase rapidly (again making that weight to length percentage higher). She's eating well, still displaying some reflux (spitting up after feeds, appears to have abdominal pain at times, frequently grunting sounding like she's refluxing, and does best positioned upright after feedings) - so we started her on Zantac twice a day orally. They say it can take 7 days to see an effect, but we think she already seems much more comfortable after just a couple of days. As for her respiratory system, still doing the chest percussion to loosen any mucus that builds up but thankfully haven't noticed signs of any mucus yet whatsoever. They did let us know that she'll be receiving the Synagis vaccination for Respiratory Syncicial Virus (RSV) this winter. It's a very costly shot that she'll receive monthly during the RSV season (approx early December through the spring, $1,500-2,500 per month), makes us incredibly thankful to have decent insurance coverage. We're still being careful with where we go, mostly just walks outside & not in public places - trying to avoid the back to school bugs that are traveling around. On our walk today it started raining just before we got home... makes me wish summer were longer! Well, I'd better head to bed, hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Hi Christy, I've been keeping updated on your lovely little Lucy since getting the work email. I recently started a blog too. I'm so happy to read that things are going really well with her check ups. She is so precious! Nolan my little guy had reflux too and was also on Zantac and it really helped him to be a lot more comfortable. Take care.

Christy and Randy, I found your blog through Mary Beth and am so happy to get to see pictures of Miss Adorable. She is beautiful and I'm so happy that your appointment went well. I talked to Kyle about C.F. because one of the professors at C.U. is doing a lot of research on it (and has won some awards for his research on treatments) and he too is very hopeful for the future. It is well understood molecularly and will be a good candidate for gene therapy. Little Lucy was born at a good time and into a wonderful family. God Bless and hope to see you soon. In the meantime, give her a kiss from me.
