A walk with Kristi Nelson!

Thank you so much Kristi & Kiera for coming down to Olympia for a walk with Lucy & me! It was a beautiful fall morning, Kristi & I had fun snapping a few photos - thanks for the tips on this pic of the capitol! Kristi is a RN that I work with in the NICU, although she now mainly works in the Float Pool for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital & is just oncall for the Tacoma General NICU. She's super spunky & fun -- always fun to be with! Her daughter Keira pushed Lucy's stroller all around the lake & kept her nice & comfy! Thanks so much girls!

The Bumbo Chair

As Lucy's head control strengthens, she's able to more easily sit in this wonderful creation! It's a really deep seat that provides just the right support for babies to sit up. Thank you Aimee Haynes for lending us this seat - it's great! She's still super wobbly in it... not quite ready for long sits in it yet, but makes for fun pictures!

Love that smile!

This is why I don't get anything done at home! Lucia Grace is becoming such a social little munchkin! I just love getting her to smile!

Lucy on a wakeboard!

Earlier this week, Randy's good friend Zack Horn & his wonderful family came down to meet Lucy. Zack is living in San Diego & has invented/created a new technology for carbon fiber wakeboards & surfboards. It's true that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree - Zack's dad, Greg Horn, was one of the original guys that was a part of Connelly skis. The company is called Sine, the ultra light boards are available to buy now, but the website won't be up for another month. Randy & Zack grew up together waterskiing, wakeboarding & everything else on Lake Steilacoom. There are 3 boys in the Horn family - Brandon (in the third picture with Lucy), Zack & Brett (not able to make it)... their mom, Mary, is a saint! She is such an incredible mom - Randy always talks about how great it was that Mary let her boys be boys growing up. Actually, it's still that way - they boys are currently having a beard growing contest & it culminates with their family Christmas picture - can't wait to see that one! One thing's for sure, every minute with the Horn Family is a blast! We love you guys!

Tolmie State Park

Wow, this was a perfect afternoon! We discovered a great walking area just 10 minutes or so from our house! I'm sure we'll be back frequently, the scenery was absolutely incredible today with the sunshine & fall beauty. So, the latest on Lucy... We can definitely tell she's growing nicely - 2 weeks ago she was 11lb 2oz & she's definitely chubbier now. She still deals with watery stools, but they're markedly better than they had been. She has a diaper rash (I expected it with the watery stools) & we've been using Dr. Abdullah's Paste (a local doctor's concoction), but it hasn't made that much of a difference. Off & on she's had yeast... And miracle cures? Send them my way. She's also still on Zantac for reflux - she has no problem taking it - just loves the potent mint flavor (strong as an Altoid!). She seems a tad bit more comfortable with the Zantac & her big spit ups are much less frequent. The other meds are no problem as well - enzymes, ABDEK vitamins & salt. We're very thankful that she has no respiratory symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis. I continue to do chest percussion on her 1-2 times daily as a preventative measure. We've heard lots of different bits of information from different people, but one recent positive bit of knowledge was that kids who are started early on pancreatic enzymes (like Lucy at 6 days) have a decrease in their likelihood of developing diabetes. Diabetes is a common problem for kids with CF as their pancreas is damaged from years of working ineffectively. We're happy to hear of the benefits of finding out early, Lucy's kind of the start of a new generation of CF kids - the children of parents who went through genetic testing.
It's crazy to think that 2 months has gone by... it just happens so quickly. We are thoroughly enjoying Lucy's smiles - her social smile is developing at a rapid pace! She's gaining more & more control of her bobble-head daily & is having test runs in her Bumbo seat almost daily, she's almost strong enough to safely be in it. Lucy loves everything about Dr. Sears' "Attachment Parenting" concepts - especially the "baby wearing" part - she's in the Baby Bjorn a major portion of every day. Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend!

A fall walk with Aunt Margie & Grandma

What a wonderful way to spend a Friday in the fall! Lucy & I met our two favorite walking buddies - Grandma Susan & Aunt Margie (well, Great Aunt Margie now!) downtown for a walk around Capitol Lake. It was a wonderful walk that lead to a bit of shopping & a tasty lunch at Wagner's - such a great day with the girls. I had to include the top picture, check out the capitol in the background - not bad!

Lucy 8 weeks

Oh how time flies. Every moment with Lucia Grace is such a blessing. Randy's good friend, Mark, came out to meet Lucy a couple nights ago, it was great to spend a bit of time with him. This week it's kind of hard to tell what color Lucy's hair is... in some lights it looks brown, others it looks like it has blonde roots, and then many times it looks more & more red! We'll wait & see!
